PRADA Creates Lunar Spacesuit for NASA

PRADA, in collaboration with Axiom Space, has unveiled a lunar spacesuit planned for NASA's Artemis IV lunar mission. This collaboration marks the first time a luxury fashion brand has directly participated in the development of a spacesuit.

The liquid-cooled ventilated garment (LCVG) will serve as the inner layer of the spacesuit, featuring ventilation ducts woven into the fabric. This independent ventilation system continuously delivers oxygen to the astronaut's face, removes exhaled carbon dioxide, and then delivers the carbon dioxide to the life support system for filtration and reuse. Designed for direct contact with the body, beneath the outer protective shell, the inner layer regulates body temperature and provides sufficient comfort to support up to eight hours of spacewalking. PRADA reportedly contributed its expertise in 3D modeling, high-tech knitting, and specialty fabrics to aid in the design of the garment.
